Snatch
Haggis began his training as a professional wrestler at the ripe old
age of
29. This meant he had up to a decade on
most of the people who choose to enter the wrestling industry. However, as is still the case, Snatch's
strength and fitness levels assisted in keeping his performance
above those
much younger than him.
His
training began in Hayward,
California at the All Pro Wrestling (APW) Boot Camp
held at the infamous APW Garage, home to many
"Garage Wars" and of several of the wrestlers
features in the
movie "Beyond the Mat". Snatch
began learning from many of the best in the business, Donovan
Morgan, Vinny
Massaro, Mike Modest, who later went on to form Pro Wrestling Iron and have
successful careers in Japan with Pro Wrestling Noah.
Unfortunately,
Snatch was not able to complete his training in California. Circumstances sent him back to his home turf
in the northern Virginia suburbs of Washington D.C.
It was there that he completed his formal training
with Jimmy Z
Sean Lei and Shorty Smalls, of KYDA Pro Wrestling.
Snatch Haggis continues to be a student of the game
with everyone
he meets and every promotion he is invited to wor
k for.
Snatch
continued to perfect his skills in the ring with such opponents, as
Dirty
Money, NWA-TNA
star, Sonjay Dutt, Sean Lei, and Brandon Day. It
was against Brock Singleton that Snatch
Haggis won his first title, KYDA Pro Heavy Weight Champion. Snatch held this title longer then any
previous champion (including former KYDA pro champions Simon Diamond
and Steve
Corino). During his 18-month reign, he
successfully defended his title from many takers, including his trainer
Shorty
Smalls, and former WWE Superstar and Olympic gold medallist Nikolai
Volkoff.
Snatch
was brought into the NWL/HoPWF by Shorty Smalls, and was asked to stay
by
promoter/booker and independent wrestling star John Rambo.
HoPWF provided some of his most stiff
competition, and arguably some of his greatest successes.
Over the period of 15 months, Snatch was one
half the four time HoPWF Tag team champions with partners The Freak,
The
Pinnacle - Sean Patrick and manager Mike Hay. He
made several
runs for both the HoPWF and NWL Heavyweight titles and quickly became a fan
favorite.
Most
recently, Snatch has made his way back to KYDA, capturing the KYDA Pro
Hard
Core Championship.
In
addition to KYDA and NWL/HoPWF, Snatch has appeared and competed in
several
other great organizations. These include
Afa the Wild Samoan's WXW in Pennsylvania, CCW in Washington D.C, VCW
in
Virginia, and Future Shock Wrestling, near Chicago.
Through
his contacts at KYDA and NWL/HoPWF, Snatch has met many of today's
stars
including independent sensations Alexis Laree (now under contract with
the
WWE), Joey Matthews and Christian York, Michael Modest and Chris
Daniels,
current stars like Batista and Jamal, Virgil, Steve Corino, Simon
Diamond and
Dawn Marie, and the likes of HeadShrinker
Samu and Afa The Wild Samoan, Honkey
Tonk Man, Nickolai Volkoff, Tito Santana, Gangrel, The Patriot, King
Kaluha and
Johnny Valiant.
2003
marked the first year Snatch Haggis was ranked within the PWI 500 at
number
477, a ranking of the top wrestling talent in the world, to include
independent
wrestling stars and those around the world and on WWE television.
Snatch
Haggis appeared on an episode of the television show, America's Most
Wanted,
supplying background wrestling footage for a piece being done about the
attack
on independent wrestler, Messiah.
Outside
of the wrestling world, Snatch Haggis has successful relationship with
vendors,
Utilikilts (www.utilikilt.com) who make his clothing of choice and ring
attire,
and Afa Tasi (www.afatasi.com), Polynesian Tribal Gear.
Other close friends include Vince Hemingson,
explorer and producer of the National Geographic documentaries,
"Vanishing
Tattoo" (www.vanishingtattoo.com).
He has found
success in many other
endeavors, ranging from bodybuilding
contests, power lifting and Highland Games competitions, to successful
dot com
ventures and businesses. All of these
have combined to build the physical,
emotional, and intellectual basis and work
ethic that currently drives the success that has had and will continue
to have
in his wrestling and entertainment careers.
